Ring Sizing Guide

Find Your Perfect Fit: A Ring Sizing Guide from Ryan James Jewellery

We want your new ring to feel like it was made just for you. Finding the correct size is the first step, and we're here to make it simple.

At Ryan James Jewellery, we use the Australian/UK alphabetical sizing system. This system is based on the internal diameter of the ring.

Method 1: Measure an Existing Ring (The easiest method!)

If you already own a ring that fits perfectly on the finger you intend to wear your new ring on, this is the most accurate way to find your size.

  1. Select a Ring: Find a ring that fits the specific finger comfortably.

  2. Grab a Ruler: Use a ruler with clear millimetre (mm) markings.

  3. Measure the Internal Diameter: Place the ring on a flat surface and measure straight across the inside of the ring from edge to edge. Do not include the metal band in your measurement.

  4. Find Your Size: Use the measurement you've taken to find your corresponding size in our chart below.

Method 2: Use the Paper Strip Method

Don't have a ring to measure? No problem! You can use this simple at-home method.

  1. Gather Your Tools: You'll need a thin strip of paper (about 5mm wide), a pen, and a ruler with millimetre markings.

  2. Wrap Your Finger: Wrap the strip of paper snugly around the base of the finger where the ring will sit. Make sure it's tight enough that it won't slip but loose enough to slide over your knuckle.

  3. Mark the Overlap: With a pen, mark the point on the paper where the strip overlaps to form a complete circle.

  4. Measure the Length: Lay the paper strip flat and use your ruler to measure the length from the start to the pen mark. This is the circumference of your finger.

  5. Find Your Size: Use this measurement to find your size in the chart below.

Important Tips for an Accurate Measurement

  • Measure at the end of the day: Your fingers can swell slightly throughout the day due to temperature and activity. Measuring in the evening ensures a comfortable fit at all times.

  • Measure multiple times: For the most reliable result, measure your finger 2-3 times on different days.

  • Consider the knuckle: If your knuckle is significantly larger than the base of your finger, measure both places and choose a size that is between the two measurements. Your ring must be able to slide over your knuckle without too much force, but not be so loose that it spins on your finger.

  • Wide bands: A wider ring band (6mm or more) will feel tighter than a narrow one. You may need to go up a half size to a full size for comfort.
