How to Secretly Find Your Partner's Ring Size

How to Secretly Find Your Partner's Ring Size

Planning a surprise proposal is an exciting time, but figuring out their ring size without spoiling the secret can be a real puzzle! Don't worry, we've helped countless people navigate this, and our friendly team is always here to lend a hand.

Here are a few clever tricks to help you get the right size:

  • Enlist a friend. Ask one of their close friends to be your secret agent. They can casually suggest "just for fun" trying on rings, or they might already know the size.

  • "Borrow" a ring. Carefully sneak away one of their rings from their jewellery box. Make sure it's one they wear on the correct finger and won't notice is missing! Even if it's for a different finger, it can still give us a great starting point.

  • Trace it. If borrowing isn't an option, you can secretly trace one of their rings. Place it on a piece of paper and use a pencil to trace the inside and outside of the band. This gives us the inner diameter, which is a key measurement.

  • Use your own hand. This is a fun, old-school method! Compare your partner's hand to your own. Maybe their ring finger is the same size as your pinky? It's not the most accurate, but it's a helpful starting point and better than nothing!

  • Just ask! If you've discussed marriage and the proposal isn't a complete shock, there's nothing wrong with simply asking them. The look of the ring and the perfect surprise proposal will still be a secret!

Helpful Tips to Keep in Mind Measuring Ring Size

Getting the most accurate measurement is key to finding the perfect fit. Keep these helpful tips in mind as you measure:

  • Mind your hands. Your dominant hand is often a bit larger than your non-dominant hand. Be sure to measure the exact finger on the correct hand that the ring will be worn on.

  • Consider the band width. A wider ring band will feel tighter than a thin one. For the most accurate result, try to measure a ring that has a similar width to the one you plan to purchase.

  • Be mindful of temperature. Fingers expand in the heat and shrink in the cold. We recommend measuring at a comfortable, room temperature.

  • Measure at the right time. Our finger size can fluctuate throughout the day. For the most reliable measurement, it's best to measure at the end of the day when your fingers are at their largest.

  • Don't forget the knuckle. If your knuckle is much larger than the base of your finger, take two measurements: one for the knuckle and one for the base. Select a size in between the two to ensure the ring can slide on and off comfortably while still fitting snugly on your finger.
